Former Indian Test opener Kris Srikkanth has questioned Nitish Kumar Reddy’s all-round abilities amid the ongoing Test series against South Africa. Srikkanth highlighted that Reddy hasn’t done much of notice, barring scoring a Test century against Australia on the 2024-25 tour.
The all-rounder bowled a total of 10 overs in the second Test match against South Africa at Guwahati as he hasn’t been backed as a bowler in Indian conditions. Furthermore, the right-hander was dismissed after scoring only 10 runs on a short-pitched delivery.
“Who called Nitish Reddy an all-rounder? Looking at his bowling can anyone call him an all-rounder? He hit that one century in Melbourne. Good. Tell me what has he done in Test cricket after that? One sunny day doesn’t make a summer. If he is an all-rounder then I am also a terrific all-rounder. You cannot term him as an all-rounder. Does he have any pace or any movement or anything?,” he said on his YouTube channel ‘Cheeky Cheeka’.
Srikkanth questioned why Sarfaraz Khan was dropped from the Test team after he scored a fine knock of 150 runs against New Zealand in 2024.
“I don’t understand why Sarfaraz did not play in Australia. In India, he played and did well. Give him a chance at least and see. He has scored runs. I dont understand the selection policy. Two batters are playing, two wicketkeepers, someone is playing as an all-rounder. How much has Nitish bowled even for SRH? He has come through SRH, let’s be clear,” he added.
The 1983 World Cup-winning player praised Washington Sundar for consistently delivering with the bat but questioned the constant change in his batting position.
“Whenever Sundar has gotten an opportunity, he has done very well. Throughout his career his Test record in batting is brilliant. Reasonably good in bowling. Good in bowling and very good in batting. One match he comes at three, then at eight,” he said.
South Africa has given a huge target of 549 runs to India and the visitors need another eight wickets to win the second Test.
