Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary questioned Lucknow Super Giants’ consistent changes after they suffered a 40-run loss against Rajasthan Royals at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Wednesday. Tiwary highlighted that LSG have been making regular changes to their batting order, which is not helping their cause.
LSG have tried three different opening combination, with Rishabh Pant, Aiden Markram, and Ayush Badoni opening the innings with Mitchell Marsh. Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh had delivered consistently in IPL 2025 for the franchise but the overseas trio of Marsh, Markram and Nicholas Pooran have failed to come up with consistent performances in the ongoing season.
LSG were bowled out for 119 runs while chasing 160 against the inaugural champions as once again their batting led to their downfall.
“When you make so many changes right after the first game, it becomes clear what thinking you are going in with. If the top-three overseas players that worked for you last year, don’t take up responsibility, and don’t step up to win you a couple of games, then this is the state you end up in. So much shuffling is not right, you want stability in the playing XI,” Manoj Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
“There should be clarity in the decision-making, and today was a golden opportunity to get back to winning ways. You don’t get to chase these kinds of totals in the IPL this season. Even Himmat Singh had such a good chance, after so many years, LSG and Pant gave you an opportunity, but he did not make the most of that opportunity. This is not turbulence, this is a crash now, and no one was saved,” he added.
On the other hand, LSG captain Rishabh Pant admitted that their batting is definitely letting them down in the ongoing season.
“It is difficult to explain. Definitely our batting is letting us down. We are disappointed as a group but at the same time you have got to keep fighting, look for answers inside and not outside. That is how it is as of now. We could have taken a lot more time with the bat including myself, not making any excuses but as a batting group we need to put our hands up and finish the job for our bowlers,” Rishabh Pant said during the post-match presentation.
LSG will next take on KKR at Lucknow on Sunday.
