Michael Hussey questions Rohit Sharma’s future during BGT 2024-25 4th Test

Former Australian batter Michael Hussey has questioned Rohit Sharma’s future after his low returns in the ongoing Test series against Australia. Hussey noted that Rohit has been lenient in his approach and the Indian selectors will need to take a call on his future after the ongoing Boxing Day Test.

Meanwhile, Rohit has not been able to lead from the front in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Test series. Rohit has returned with scores of 3, 6, 10, and 3 and thus he has managed only 22 runs in four innings. The right-hander has scored a solitary fifty in last 14 Test innings.

Furthermore, Rohit hasn’t been at his tactical best as the leader of the team and many experts have questioned his captaincy.

Michael Hussey said on Fox Cricket, “I think they’ve given him that leniency already because he’s been a great player for India. At some stage that leniency has got to stop and it stops after this Test match unless he makes runs in the second innings. I don’t think you have to say ‘where are you at?’ You can see where he’s at.”

“The numbers don’t lie. They’ve had a few tough wickets to bat on previous to this tour in India but you just see even his movement in the field (is not good). Even tactically he’s been off the pace as well and he gets a used by date, everyone does.”

Rohit has an average of 25.29 in 18 Test innings while playing in the Australian conditions.

On the other hand, former Australian opener Mark Waugh said if he had been an Indian selector, he would take away the captaincy band from Rohit Sharma for the Sydney Test if he fails to score runs in the second innings at the MCG.

“If I was a selector now, it depends what happens in the second innings, but if he doesn’t make runs in the second innings and we go to Sydney in a crucial Test match, I’d be saying ‘Rohit thank you for your service, you’ve been a great player, but we’re going to bring in Jasprit Bumrah as captain for the SCG and that’s the end of your career,” said Waugh.

Australia were 228-9, leading by 333 runs on stumps Day 4.
