Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has put his weight behind Vaibhav Suryavanshi to be picked for India’s senior team after his impressive performances. Vaughan reckons the 15-year-old should be picked for India’s white-ball teams for the England tour after the IPL.
Suryavanshi scored 52 runs off just 17 balls with the help of four fours and five maximums as he scored his runs at a strike rate of 305.88 in the run-chase of 128 against Chennai Super Kings at Guwahati on Monday.
The prodigy batter completed his fifty off just 15 balls, which is the joint third-fastest in the IPL along with Sunil Narine, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Nicholas Pooran.
“I am just looking ahead here, and I know we’re probably getting ahead of ourselves since it’s only the first innings of the IPL. But with a white-ball tour of England coming up in a few months, if I were Indian cricket, I’d take him on that tour,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
“I am not saying he necessarily walks straight into the XI because there are players already in the side, but he needs to be brought into the Indian setup and exposed to that environment. If he ends up playing one or two games, fantastic, but the key is to get him on that tour,” Vaughan added.
Meanwhile, the southpaw scored 439 runs in seven matches of the Under-19 World Cup at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of 169.50 and thus was awarded Player of the Tournament.
Furthermore, Suryavanshi scored 252 runs in seven matches of IPL 2025 for Rajasthan Royals at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.55 and thus hogged all the limelight.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Saturday.
