Former England captain Michael Vaughan reckons England would have won the T20 World Cup 2026 if they had the services of Jasprit Bumrah. India registered a thrilling seven-run win against England in the semifinal clash after Bumrah returned with impressive figures 1-33 in his quota of four overs.
The premium fast bowler conceded only six runs in the 18th over to turn the game in India’s favor. The Men in Blue then went on to beat New Zealand comprehensively by 96 runs.
“England would have won the WC if they had Bumrah..” Vaughan shared on X, formerly Twitter, with a clip from their ‘Stick To Cricket’ podcast.
Vaughan compared Bumrah with legendary strikers like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the video, Michael Vaughan said: “I reckon, if you put Jasprit Bumrah in English cricket, they win it (T20 World Cup). Probably like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, these kind of…”
“Didn’t you say he’s the best bowler you’ve ever seen?” David Lloyd asked.
Vaughan acknowledged that Bumrah is the best bowler he has seen in his life.
“Yeah, that I’ve seen,” Vaughan said.
“And you gotta remember, I started watching cricket, probably from the 85-86, when I really started to study cricket. He’s the best I’ve seen,” Vaughan added.
On the other hand, former England captain Alastair Cook rated Bumrah as the best all-format bowler in the world.
“Is he the best in a match-winning spell in Test match cricket? He’s definitely, without a shadow of doubt, the best all-format bowler. You can safely say that, can’t you? In any form, he like the best all-round bowler,” Alastair Cook said.
“Has he, like a Test match, he’s bowled some spells, and I’m not quite.. 8/15 or is he not that kind of bowler?” Cook added.
“I’ve seen him a bit in Australia produce some spells, and he has been just different,” Vaughan said.
Bumrah will next play for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026.
