As has been the case for most of his career, Virat Kohli is in the headlines once again. However, this time it’s for all the wrong reasons. The RCB skipper’s form has been a bit concerning and the runs aren’t exactly flowing from Kohli’s bat the way they used to before. In their previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders, RCB collapsed under the pressure and got bundled up for just 92 runs, suffering a nine-wicket defeat.
Meanwhile, not only has Kohli been disappointing with the bat, he has also been under tremendous pressure which vented to the surface in the manner he decided to relinquish captaincy. In the build-up to the second leg of IPL 2021, Kohli announced that he wouldn’t continue as the T20 Captain for Team India and on September 19, he also made it clear that IPL 2021 will be his last season as the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore.
As RCB prepare to take on CSK in their second match of the UAE leg of IPL, head coach Mike Hesson asserted that Virat Kohli has found his rhythm and is desperate to do well with RCB this season. He’s expecting the captain to play handy knocks in the next few matches.
“Look, there are some times when our batsmen look to do that to get some extra opportunity. Virat is obviously desperate to do well, he likes one-on-one sessions to get his confidence and basically find his rhythm. It definitely looks like he has found it,” said Hesson on RCB’s official YouTube channel.
In the match against KKR as well, Kohli had faltered. He had made four runs off five balls before he got dismissed by Prasidh Krishna who had trapped him for a plumb LBW. The onus will be on him to ensure his side gets a comfortable start at the top.
Although the 32-year-old’s announcement of relinquishing captaincy of RCB was met with agreement in many quarters, many fans and experts also claimed that the decision could cause chaos in the dressing room. Mike Hesson, however, believes that is not the case.
