Former New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan has urged Kolkata Knight Riders’ batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi to find another gear in his batting after KKR registered a comprehensive 29-run win against Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Saturday.
Raghuvanshi has performed consistently for KKR in the ongoing season, scoring 422 runs in 12 matches at an average of 42.20 and a strike rate of 146.52.
The young batter scored an impressive knock of 82 runs off 44 balls, laced with four fours and seven sixes against GT. The youngster added 95 runs off 41 balls with Finn Allen and then added 108 runs off 52 balls with Cameron Green. Thus, he played a key role in helping KKR post an above-par score of 247 runs on the board.
“I think we’ll probably see Angkrish opening, if not towards the back end of this season, then definitely next year, in my view. He is a good, well-rounded player. But I think there’s another gear he still needs to find to make a little more impact,” McClenaghan said on JioStar.
He further added, “We’re seeing Shreyas and Shubman go through gears two, three and four. He’s stuck in third gear at the moment, but third gear was good enough in this game. He’s getting better every single game and growing in confidence. He’s got all the shots, and I really like the way he plays his cricket.”
Raghuvanshi has performed consistently for KKR in the ongoing season and has been one of the biggest positives for the franchise. KKR are still in the playoffs race but only have 10% chance of making it to the last four, according to Star Sports.
Kolkata Knight Riders will next take on Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Wednesday.
