Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has showered praise on Virat Kohli’s work ethic and also likened him to football great Cristiano Ronaldo. Kohli scored a match-winning knock of 100 runs off 111 balls in the high-octane clash against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday.
While chasing 242 runs, Kohli scored the majority of his runs in singles and doubles, and ran hard between the wickets, which showed his high level of fitness. The veteran also became the fastest to reach the 14000-run mark in ODIs, getting to the milestone in 287 innings.
This was Kohli’s 51st ODI century and his 82nd across all formats at the top level.
Mohammad Amir said on India Today, “Why do people love Ronaldo? Why do they love Messi? If I talk about Ronaldo, especially, look at his lifestyle. Look at his charity work, his work ethic, and his fitness. He is a complete package. Likewise, Virat Kohli is a complete package.”
“Why is he a role model for many, even in Pakistan? The country doesn’t matter. Whether he is from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, or England-a role model can be from anywhere. For this generation, Virat Kohli is an inspiration. All those youngsters who want to be cricketers, who want to be batters, should follow Virat Kohli’s footsteps.”
The former left-arm pacer praised Virat Kohli for his incredible work ethic and added that the talisman has worked hard for his fitness.
“Virat Kohli is a player for whom age doesn’t matter. His work ethic doesn’t change depending on his form. He came 90 minutes before for training on the eve of the India vs Pakistan match. Virat Kohli has lived the best life. He might play two or more years in international cricket. But his work ethic is still top-notch. There’s no doubting his ability and work ethics,” Amir said.
Kohli has performed consistently in the ODI format and he has an incredible record while chasing.
Rohit Sharma’s team will next take on New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on 2nd March.
