Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif has urged BCCI to intervene and not leave all decisions to the team management in Rohit Sharma’s case. It was reported during the England tour that Rohit could not play his last ODI at Lord’s.

However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia downplayed all the speculations. Rohit went on to score a magnificent knock of 138 runs off just 110 balls in the final ODI of the series and answered his critics in style. 

Rohit has made it clear that he wants to be part of the ODI World Cup squad. The Indian veteran has significantly improved his fitness and has also performed consistently for the team.

“Rohit definitely wants to play. He is scoring runs and doing well. So the BCCI should now tell the management to let him play, he is a big player and is doing okay. Do not take a hasty call. I feel the BCCI must intervene and not leave all decisions to (team) management. Their calls may be wrong at times. Rohit has shown that his focus is on his batting. In the first two games, he did not look in great touch. But such things will happen when a player is playing only one format. The first few games will go like this, but later he will be free-flowing. That is why he is taking time,” Mohammad Kaif said in a video on his YouTube channel.

Kaif praised the BCCI’s secretary Devajit Saikia after he ended all the rumors before the third ODI against England.

“Twice he walked away himself. After the 2024 T20 World Cup and then after the Australia Tests. But here he is standing strong. The media report that came also said the Lord’s game might be his last. But the BCCI did a good thing before the game by giving that statement. I think that is the turning point. Whether the management or selectors want him or not, the BCCI made it clear that nothing was happening. So the focus completely shifted back to the game at Lord’s.”

Rohit’s next ODI series will be at home against the West Indies
