Former Australian chinaman spinner Brad Hogg doesn’t see former Indian captain MS Dhoni featuring in the T20 World Cup, which will take place in Australia later in the year.
MS Dhoni last played for the Indian team when they lost the semi-final clash against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup.
Subsequently, he took a break from International cricket and also made himself unavailable for national selection. In fact, Dhoni was expected to call time on his International career but it wasn’t to be the case.
Meanwhile, many experts believe that the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League is a crucial one for Dhoni. It is predicted that if Dhoni has a good IPL season for the Chennai Super Kings, it would help him in returning back to the national colours. India’s head coach Ravi Shastri had also stated that Dhoni might return to T20 cricket but the 50-overs version could be out of question.
However, as the IPL is hanging on by a thread due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, Dhoni can lose his chance. The competition was to begin from March 29 but it was postponed till April 15.
Consequently, Brad Hogg believes it is going to be a difficult road back to the Indian team for MS Dhoni as he hasn’t had the International exposure lately. Furthermore, Hogg added that Dhoni will play on the Chennai pitches where there is hardly any bounce while the Australian tracks offer good bounce to the fast bowlers.
Brad Hogg answered a Twitter user question when he asked about Dhoni’s chances for the T20 World Cup.
Hogg wrote, “Pending IPL performances, but sadly I think not, due to lack of international exposure lately & IPL he is playing the majority of games in Chennai (if it goes ahead) which is suited for spin not pace, the conditions he will get in Australia.”
Dhoni has been a champion player but the Indian team has moved on. The players like KL Rahul have grabbed their chances and it will be difficult for Dhoni to get back into the team.
