Chennai Super Kings veteran MS Dhoni said he will take a call on his IPL future after four-five months, depending on his fitness. CSK ended their IPL 2025 campaign on a winning note, with a comprehensive 110-run win against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Sunday.
But for the first time in IPL history, CSK ended a season as the cellar-dwellers. Meanwhile, Dhoni scored 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17 in IPL 2025. Many experts have also questioned Dhoni’s batting position as the veteran is coming out to bat in the lower order due to knee issues.
Dhoni will soon turn 44 in July and there is no doubt that it is not going to be easy for him to stay at the top of his game in a competitive tournament like the IPL.
MS Dhoni said in the post-match presentation while talking to the official broadcasters, “It depends. I have 4-5 months to decide, there’s no hurry. Need to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best. If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22. Will go back to Ranchi, enjoy a few bike rides. I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back either. I have the luxury of timing. Will think about it and then decide.”
Meanwhile, Dhoni added they would look to bounce back strongly in the next season after a dismal run in IPL 2025. The wicket-keeper bat said they need to fill in a few holes and they should be good for the next edition.
“When we started the season, the four games were in Chennai. We decided to bat second, but I felt the wicket was good for batting in the first innings. I was worried about the batting department. We can put runs on the board, but a few holes to fill. Ruturaj doesn’t need to worry about too many things next season,” said Dhoni.
CSK could only manage four wins in 14 games in IPL 2025.
