Former South Africa wicket-keeper batter Mark Boucher has been appointed as the head coach of Mumbai Indians. Boucher takes over the baton from former MI coach Mahela Jayawardene, who has now been appointed as a global head of performance.
Meanwhile, Boucher had a glorious international career and he was brilliant behind the stumps for the Proteas. Boucher also holds the record for most dismissals in Test matches.
After retiring from International cricket, Boucher took the head coaching reins of Titans in South Africa and led them to five titles in the domestic circuit.
In 2019, Cricket South Africa appointed Mark Boucher as the head coach and he led the national team to 11 Test, 12 ODIs, and 23 T20I wins.
Akash. M. Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm, said “It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark Boucher to Mumbai Indians. With his proven expertise on the field and off it as a coach guiding his team to numerous victories, Mark will add immense value to MI and take forward its legacy.”
Mark Boucher, Head Coach, Mumbai Indians said, “It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as Head Coach of MI. Their history and achievements as a franchise clearly put them up there as one of the most successful sporting franchises in all of world sport. I look forward to the challenge and respect the need for results. It’s a strong unit with great leadership and players. I look forward to adding value to this dynamic unit.”
Mumbai Indians had a horrible run in the previous season as they could only manage four wins in 14 matches and finished as cellar dwellers of the tournament. Thus, Mark Boucher will be determined to turn the tables in the next edition of the lucrative T20 league.
Meanwhile, Boucher decided to resign from his head coach post of South Africa after the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup.
