India’s captain Rohit Sharma wrote a heartfelt note for Rahul Dravid, giving him his gratitude for guiding the team on the right track. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid took over the baton from Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri after the 2021 T20 World Cup and the captain-coach duo got the best out of their players.
Under Dravid’s tutelage, India made it to the semifinal of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the final of the World Test Championship, and the ODI World Cup 2023 final but could not cross the last hurdle in any of these events.
However, India was finally able to break their World Cup hoodoo as they won the T20 World Cup title after beating South Africa in the final.
After the win, Rohit revealed his admiration for the former head coach of the team.
“You are an absolute stalwart of this game but left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time,” wrote the Indian captain on social media.
He added, “I have learned so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too.”
Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid was not able to clinch a major trophy as a player despite a stellar career in ODIs and Test cricket. However, his wait to lift a big trophy finally ended with the T20 World Cup triumph.
“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach, and my friend,” Rohit concluded.
After Rahul Dravid’s stint, BCCI has appointed Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach.
