Navjot Singh Sidhu lauds Yashasvi Jaiswal, says he is now above greatness

Former Indian Test opener Navjot Singh Sidhu showered praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after he scored a fine century in the second innings of the fifth Test match against England at Kennington Oval. Jaiswal scored a fine knock of 118 runs off 164 balls with the help of 14 fours and two sixes.

The left-hander also added a crucial alliance of 107 runs with nightwatchman, Akash Deep, who scored 66 runs. Jaiswal has an impressive record while playing against England as he has amassed 1123 runs in 10 Test matches at an average of 62.38.

The southpaw scored 411 runs in five Test matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar series at an average of 41.11 against England.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant innings. If I compare all the openers of India, Gavaskar is at number one. But that was a phase where Test matches were drawn, and you would weather the storm. Sehwag brought a change to that approach. Jaiswal is now above greatness. It is on him now to sustain this and he will. This is not an ordinary hundred. It terrorized the opposition. If he would stop and play or play steadily, maybe he would not make this hundred. He reminds me of Matthew Hayden,” Navjot Singh Sidhu stated on his YouTube channel.

Sidhu said there is a realistic chance that India would go on to win the fifth Test match. India has set a target of 374 and England had ended the third day’s play at 50-1.

“Time does not matter here. There are two days. India have a realistic chance. Remember we have two spinners. The iron is hot. If this one day proves effective, it will a shot in the arm. It will be a tonic that will complete the transition of Indian cricket,” he said.

At lunch on the fourth day, England were 164-3 with Joe Root and Harry Brook at the crease.
