Former Indian opener Navjot Singh Sidhu has picked Virat Kohli over MS Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar as India’s ODI GOAT amid the ODI series against the West Indies. Sidhu highlighted that Kohli has played a key role in India’s successful run chases and his record is second to none in the second innings.
Sachin and Kohli are regarded as two of the best ODI batters of all time. While Sachin is the highest run-getter in the format with 18426 runs, Kohli recently breached the 15000-run mark against the West Indies in the first ODI on Sunday when he scored an amazing knock of 139 runs off just 88 balls. The right-hander played with an aggressive approach and he is batting at another level in the last one year.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni amassed 10773 runs in 350 ODI matches at an average of 50.58.
“Virat Kohli by a mile. 80 percent, 77 percent of his runs have come chasing, and he is a match-winner. Dhoni also won matches, but he used to come at No.5, which is also difficult. But to sustain and maintain at No.3 and keep on winning matches, especially in run chases, makes him a chase master, Kohli,” said Sidhu on his Instagram handle.
“His greatest strength as a cricketer is that he has no weakness. He has won the IPL also twice. I am not putting the others down; they are all legends in their own right. Dhoni is the one who started it all and is a great captain. But Virat Kohli, any day in ODIs, is number one.”
The second ODI between India and the West Indies will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, on Wednesday.
