Former England opener Nick Compton has questioned Jasprit Bumrah for playing only three out of the five Test matches against England. Compton said India must play Bumrah in the final Test at the Oval and wants the fast bowler to push himself.
Bumrah holds the key in India’s pace battery and he has taken 14 wickets in three Test matches at an average of 26 against England in the ongoing series.
Meanwhile, it was pre-decided by India’s think tank and selectors that Bumrah would play only three out of the five Test matches in the Anderson-Tendulkar series.
Nick Compton told RevSportz, “If this isn’t one of the biggest Test matches in recent Indian history, then what are you saving yourself for? He should take whatever treatment he needs, push through, and get out there.
“That’s up to him, really. I don’t think he’s injured, maybe just sore or fatigued. But these are the moments you live for as a cricketer. How many chances do you get to play a five-Test series in England? This could be his last opportunity given his injury history,” he added.
The former right-handed batter said India really needs the services of Jasprit Bumrah in the final Test as they have a chance to draw the series.
“India really needs him. If he plays and delivers, this could be a huge result. Drawing the series 2-2 in England, with a new captain and coach – that would be massive,” said Compton.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Bumrah will miss the fifth Test match against England. The gun fast bowler returned with figures of 2-112 in 33 overs he bowled in the first innings at Old Trafford, marking the first time he has conceded more than 100 runs in a Test innings.
The fifth and final Test match between England and India will be played at the Kennington Oval, London, from 31st July onwards.
