India have suffered a setback ahead of their upcoming T20I series against England and Ireland, with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy being ruled out due to injury.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Tuesday that Reddy will miss the series after experiencing discomfort in his left quadriceps. The all-rounder is set to undergo rehabilitation as he begins his recovery process.
To fill the vacancy in the squad, the selectors have handed a call-up to Mumbai all-rounder Suryansh Shedge, who now has an opportunity to strengthen his case at the international level.
The 23-year-old pace-bowling all-rounder has been rewarded for a series of consistent performances in domestic and developmental cricket. Shedge was recently part of the India A squad that competed in a tri-series in Sri Lanka, where he contributed 147 runs across five matches. While his impact with the ball was more limited, claiming two wickets from 23 overs, his all-round abilities were enough to attract the attention of selectors.
Shedge also enjoyed a productive campaign in IPL 2026 while representing Punjab Kings. He scored 158 runs in seven matches, maintaining an impressive strike rate of 175.55 and averaging close to 40. His aggressive batting and ability to contribute in multiple roles have made him one of the emerging talents in Indian cricket.
Since making his domestic debut for Mumbai in 2024, Shedge has become a regular presence across formats and has steadily built a reputation as a dependable all-round performer. His selection for the national squad marks another significant milestone in his young career.
For Nitish Kumar Reddy, the injury comes at an unfortunate time. The all-rounder had recently featured for India in the ODI series against Afghanistan and was expected to play an important role in the upcoming T20 assignments.
The focus will now be on his rehabilitation and recovery, with the Indian team management likely to monitor his progress closely in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Shedge will look to seize the opportunity and make an impact if given a chance during the England and Ireland series, as India continue to build depth and explore new options ahead of future international commitments.
