India’s talented batter Devdutt Padikkal admitted it is not easy to push into India’s ODI team as many players are in contention. Padikkal has been in red-hot form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 605 runs in six matches of the tournament at an average of 100.83.
The southpaw has scored his runs at a strike rate of 103.42 and has scored four centuries in the competition. Furthermore, Padikkal had scored 309 runs in six matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy at an average of 61.80 and a strike rate of 167.03.
“I wouldn’t say it was disappointing,” Padikkal told The Indian Express. “Yes, I was looking at the selection and seeing what would come out. But at the same time, I understood that there are so many batters in the line and everyone has been doing really well. And it’s not that easy to push into that one-day side. And again, that’s something that as cricketers, you have to make peace with. And you have to just try and do your job and keep scoring runs,” the 25-year-old says.
The southpaw also scored a fine knock of 91 runs against Rajasthan on Tuesday, which helped Karnataka register a comprehensive 150-run win.
On the other hand, Padikkal had scored 247 runs in 10 matches of IPL 2025 at an average of 27.44 and a strike rate of 150.60 and thus played a key role in taking RCB to the playoffs. The left-hander was unfortunately injured for the playoff stages.
Padikkal has definitely put his hat in the ring for the national team selection and he would look to carry the good show in the domestic circuit.
