Axar Patel has grown massively as a cricketer over the last couple of years and has been starting to push his case strongly to be selected in the Indian cricket team on a regular basis. Axar has already becoming a worthy candidate in Test matches held at home. He has already taken 39 wickets in just six matches in his relatively new Test career and has also scored 197 runs at an average close to 25.
Axar was also hugely impressive during the latest ODI series against West Indies. During the second ODI, Axar slammed 64* off just 35 deliveries to power through the run-chase. His innings included three boundaries and five maximums and he was selected as the Man of the Match with Team India winning the game with just two balls to spare.
Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre, who has worked closely with Axar over the last several years, is delighted with his consistent performances in the national team as well as in the Indian Premier League. He has also lauded his growth as a proper all-rounder in world cricket.
“He has been doing extremely well for the last three years. We all believe that he is going to be a genuine all-rounder and this is what he is actually delivering for Team India,” said Pravin Amre.
While the 28-year-old’s bowling had always been tight and disciplined, it’s his massive improvement in the batting department which has caught the attention of everyone. He has taken tremendous strides and adds a different dimension to both Delhi Capitals as well as his national side.
Pravin Amre says he always believed that Axar was going to become a genuine all-rounder because of his abilities. His recent performances with India suggest how fluent he is with both the bat as well as the ball and Amre also thinks that IPL experience and his role with Delhi Capitals moulded him into this player.
“We are very delighted because he has done the same for us in Delhi Capitals, like in a couple of matches he contributed for us winning with the bat also. We know how good a bowler he is, but his all-rounder role is important, especially in T20 cricket,” Amre told IANS.
