Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed admitted that his team made mistakes in the powerplay overs after they lost against Islamabad United by a gargantuan margin of 43 runs at the National Stadium, Karachi in the 10th match of PSL 2022 on Thursday.
Quetta Gladiators had a couple of chances in the powerplay overs but they could not hang on to them as Islamabad United got off to a quick start as they brought their 50 in the first four overs.
Furthermore, Gladiators could not put a lid on the scoring rate as ISU posted an above-par score of 229 runs. Out of the five bowlers used by Sarfaraz Ahmed, four leaked their runs at an economy rate of more than 10. Mohammad Nawaz was the only exception as he conceded 32 runs in his four overs quota and scalped two wickets.
Sarfaraz Ahmed said in the post-match presentation, “Unfortunately we had to make a change before a toss with Hasnain out. Made mistakes in the powerplay, would’ve been great if we had held onto the catches. Naseem Shah came back well in the last two overs. Positives are there”.
On the other hand, Colin Munro scored a fine knock of 72 runs off just 39 balls he faced. The southpaw scored three fours and five sixes in his blistering knock. Munro added 93 runs with Azam Khan for the fourth wicket alliance, who scored 65 runs and played a key role in helping his team post 229 runs on the board. Munro was awarded the Player of the match for his fine performance and he said that it was a beautiful track to bat on.
Munro said after the game, “Beautiful wicket to bat on. They got us off to a flier, easy to come in and keep the momentum going. Always backing myself, if I’m out being aggressive that’s okay”.
Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators have managed a solitary win out of the four games they have played in PSL 2022 and they will need to turn the corner in the upcoming matches.
QTG will next face Lahore Qalandars on Monday at the same venue of National Stadium, Karachi.
