Punjab Kings thrash LSG to seal second place on IPL table

Kings XI Punjab jumped to second place on the IPL 2025 points table after a 37-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in Dharamsala on Sunday, where a dominant total was followed by a well-oiled bowling performance.

While young Priyansh Arya suffered a rare failure inside the Powerplay, his opening partner Prabhsimran Singh smoked 91 off 48 balls – his third consecutive fifty – to set up a PBKS total of 236/5. Along the way, Prabhsimran found allies in Josh Inglis (30 off 14), Shreyas Iyer (45 off 25) and Nehal Wadhera (19 off six) before the pair of Shashank Singh (33* off 15) and Marco Jansen (15* from five) provided the late fireworks.

Inglis used a surprise shot at No 3 to terrific effect, smashing his best IPL score to date which included a brutal assault on LSG quick Mayank Yadav. Inglis welcomed Mayank into the attack with three consecutive sixes, and by the innings was over the pacer had conceded 60 runs off 24 balls.

But the man on fire was Prabhsimran, whose fourth fifty of the season featured seven sixes and six fours. His consistency has been eye-catching, and here too Prabhsimran’s adeptness in using pace to offset bowlers’ lines was impressive. He looked set for a second IPL century but fell nine short.

Chasing 237, LSG lost three wickets inside the Powerplay – all to PBKS left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh – and eventually finished on 199/7 thanks chiefly to Ayush Badoni’s 74 off 40 balls. Arshdeep was exception in his first three overs, as he took out LSG openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh and then the big fish, Nicholas Pooran, in the fifth over of the chase.

With this win, PBKS have 15 points from 11 matches to sit at second behind leaders Royel Challengers Bengaluru. LSG are at seventh with five wins and six losses, four points behind Gujarat Titans at fourth position with three games left.
