Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik reckons the captain-coach duo of Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir wants to push players out of their comfort zone on and off the field. India showed that they want to always go for the win after taking the second Test match by seven wickets at Green Park, Kanpur on Tuesday.
With more than two days washed out due to rain, the second Test was heading towards a draw. However, Rohit Sharma and Co. had other plans as they smashed 285 runs off just 34.4 overs in the first innings and broke multiple records.
India took a crucial lead of 52 runs and then bundled out the visitors at 146 after a collective bowling effort with Bumrah, Ashwin, and Jadeja taking three wickets each. The hosts were then able to chase down 95 runs with ease as Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a fine fifty. India won with almost 45 overs remaining in the day and Rohit Sharma was able to get the best out of his players.
Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz, “They made it uncomfortable for some of the batters because they wanted to play at such a high tempo. I know for a fact that they have to bat out of their comfort zone. And that’s what Rohit Sharma-Gautam Gambhir era is going to be filled with. Push people out of their comfort zone on and off the field. And that will give the results they are looking for.”
Karthik lauded India for beating a confident Bangladesh unit in under two days of action.
“This Test match is astounding, unprecedented. To beat a team, which came in as a confident team, in under two days. After two days have been washed out completely. Still managing to do it with 45 overs to spare. Very, very cool from the Rohit-Gauti partnership so far,” Karthik said in the same interaction.
India will next take on Bangladesh in the opening T20I at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior on Sunday.
