Afghanistan talisman spinner Rashid Khan has lavished praise on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi amid the T20I series against Afghanistan. Sooryavanshi has been in red-hot form as he scored 151 runs in three T20Is against Zimbabwe. Furthermore, the youngster scored 192 runs in five innings in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy for East Zone.
The 15-year-old hogged the limelight after he scored 776 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 while playing for Rajasthan Royals, ending the tournament as the highest run-getter.
During the season, Sooryavanshi took the world-class bowlers to the cleaners.
“You can’t think much about someone who is that attacking. You can’t go too deep into it. Then what happens is you forget your own skills and don’t think much about it. I feel like you have to keep things simple, hit the right areas consistently, bowl the ball which is the hardest to hit. It’s just a game of line and length. A good ball is a good ball for any batter around the world. On a good ball, he might hit one or two sixes, but you will get the result,” Rashid Khan said in an exclusive interview with Sports Today.
On the other hand, Rashid Khan also praised India’s ODI and Test captain, Shubman Gill, who has been doing a decent job. Gill also led Gujarat Titans to the final of IPL 2026.
“Leading the Indian team is something. He is a good leader and someone who listens. He also allows and gives the freedom to the players. That’s what you need as a player, to have a free hand from the captain. Most important is leading from the front. With the bat, he leads from the front. As a captain, as a leader, he makes it more special by leading from the front and he is setting an example. He is going to do an amazing job for India in the future,” Rashid Khan said.
Gill will be in action in the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies.
