Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin showered praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi after the youngster continued his stunning form in the three-match youth ODI series against South Africa Under-19. The pugnacious left-hander scored a magnum opus knock of 127 runs off just 74 balls with the help of nine fours and 10 sixes in the third ODI on Wednesday.
Suryavanshi’s blistering knock helped India Under-19 post a mammoth total of 393 runs on the board. The visitors registered a gargantuan win of 233 runs after the hosts were bowled out for 160 in 35 overs. Thus, the 14-year-old was awarded Player of the Match after India Under-19 registered a 3-0 series win.
The southpaw scored a total of 206 runs in three matches of the series at an average of 68.67 and a blistering strike rate of 187.27 and thus bagged the Player of the Series award.
Ashwin wrote on X, “171(95), 50(26), 190(84), 68(24), 108*(61), 46(25) & 127(74) today. These are just some of Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s scores in the last 30 days across domestic & U19 cricket. Enna thambi, indha adi podhuma, illa innum konjam venuma? Translation (What’s all this brother? Is this sample enough, or are you going to raise the bar further?). You can’t explain in words what this kid is doing at 14.”
Ashwin added it would be interesting to note how Vaibhav Suryavanshi will go about his business in the upcoming months.
“With the U19 WC round the corner where he’s expected to be the showstopper, followed immediately by the leap to the IPL for his first full season as an opener stepping into the big shoes of Sanju, the next four months of #VaibhavWatch is going to be exciting, telling us everything about his temperament, hunger & character,” said Ashwin (via the aforementioned source).
Suryavanshi will open the innings for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026.
