Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin believes the fans and pundits should hold their horses in fast-tracking Vaibhav Suryavanshi into the national team. The 15-year-old youngster once again impressed as the Rajasthan Royals thumped Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Monday.
Suryavanshi scored 52 runs off just 17 balls with the help of four fours and five maximums as he scored his runs at a strike rate of 305.88 in the run-chase of 128. The prodigy batter completed his fifty off just 15 balls, which is the joint third-fastest in the IPL along with Sunil Narine, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Nicholas Pooran.
“Don’t give him such a target. He is not even a guy, he is a kid. If MS Dhoni is playing till 45, and if Suryavanshi plays till 40, he has two and a half decades left in cricket. Leave him alone, he will come on his own when the time is right. He is too good to not play for India. He will play anyway eventually. When will he play? For that, we might have to wait a bit. Why are we always in a hurry?” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin said CSK bowlers had no answers to Suryavanshi’s onslaught as he took the visitors’ bowling line-up to the cleaners from the get-go.
“He turned 15 years old, so he scored a 15-ball 50, he is showing his age. I mean, what a player he is? How fast is his bat speed? CSK had no answers against him, they looked a flat, deflated unit on the field. RR have put on such a dominating performance that they have said, ‘ Look at us, we are also a powerful team in this competition’,” Ashwin concluded.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Saturday.
