Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin questioned Delhi Capitals’ planning amid the ongoing IPL 2026. Ashwin noted that he has not seen Abishek Porel bat in the last two years even when the left-hander had done a decent job for the franchise.
In the ongoing season, DC have been backing Pathum Nissanka but the Sri Lankan batter hasn’t been able to deliver the goods. The right-hander has scored 147 runs in seven matches at an average of 21 and a strike rate of 150.
On the other hand, Porel has scored 661 runs in 29 IPL innings at an average of 25.42 and a strike rate of 149.89. Furthermore, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are not bowling their full quota of four overs in the ongoing season.
“I don’t know who will open for Delhi. Rahul will be there, but who will be there with him? I don’t know. At one stage, when Ponting was coach, he said that Abishek Porel is a serious talent, and then I have not seen him bat for the last two years. I don’t know whether Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will finish their quota of overs or not,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, Lungisani Ngidi suffered a serious head injury in the last game and he had to be rushed to the hospital.
“Lungi Ngidi might not play, but will Mitchell Starc play? I don’t know that either, because he is only available after May 1. He has landed there, but we don’t know whether he is available or not. There are so many ‘I don’t knows’ here, which is why I don’t know what to say about DC,” he added.
Delhi Capitals have lost their last two games against SRH and PBKS and they would want to return back to winning ways against RCB on Monday.
