Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reckons if India decides to play Abhimanyu Easwaran in the fourth Test match, then it would be unfair to the right-handed batter. Easwaran has an impressive first-class record but he hasn’t received his chances despite traveling with the team on Australian tour and also in the first three Test matches against England.
Earwaran has scored 7841 runs in 103 first-class matches at an impressive average of 48.70 and he has been knocking on the selector’s doors for sometime.
Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan was dropped after he made his Test debut at Leeds, Headingley. Karun Nair has failed to deliver in the first three Test matches.
“If you play Abhimanyu Easwaran, it will be injustice to him. Say he performs well in this Test. A few might put up social media reels about his prolific batting in first-class cricket. If he plays well, then it is good. In fact, I wish him the best always and he deserves all the goodness in this world. What if he also plays a Test and does not deliver? Who would you bring in next? Whatever we do, there must be a sense of stability,” Ravichandran Ashwin reflected while talking on his YouTube channel.
On the other hand, the former Indian all-rounder added India can win the fourth Test if their bowling fires at all cylinders. Ashwin said Kuldeep can add strength to India’s playing XI.
“If India’s bowling fires I think they can still make a comeback. Kuldeep Yadav could add a lot of strength. Of course, it isn’t like he will come in and pick fifers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You should expect him to do what Nitish can do,” he said.
The fourth Test match between England and India will be played at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, from July 23 onwards.
