Former Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin questioned Chennai Super Kings batting after they suffered a crushing loss of eight wickets against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Monday.
It was a difficult wicket to bat on in the first three-four overs but Ashwin said it was in no way a 127-run wicket. CSK were left under the cosh at 38-4 in the Powerplay and were eventually bowled out for a below par score.
Jamie Overton top-scored with 43 runs but none of the other CSK batters could show any resistance in the first innings.
“RR outplayed, outclassed, did everything to CSK. Please don’t say anything wrong about the wicket, I would not accept that. There was some moisture in this wicket, it was under the covers, but it isn’t a 127-run wicket,” Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
“Sanju Samson came after such a good World Cup, he played with a certain tempo there and suddenly, he had to change it a bit. It was a wicket where you needed to take some time to play,” Ashwin said.
“Today, CSK were beaten black and blue, that is all. It wasn’t their day at all and the team seemed flat and the options were few,” Ashwin added.
Meanwhile, RR chased down the target of 128 with ease with eight wickets and 47 balls to spare. RR opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a brisk knock of 52 runs off just 17 balls to take his team over the line.
On the other hand, Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer bagged two wickets apiece to put CSK under the pump.
Chennai Super Kings will next take on Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Friday.
