Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting has showered praise on Priyansh Arya, who has impressed one and all in his maiden IPL season. The left-hander scored a fine knock of 70 runs off just 34 balls against Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala before the match was abandoned due to security reasons amid rising tensions with Pakistan.
Arya has scored 347 runs in 11 matches of IPL 2025 at an average of 31.55 and a strike rate of 192.78. The southpaw has scored two fifties and one century in the ongoing edition.
Ponting noted that while Prabhsimran Singh has been more consistent for the franchise, Arya has been the find of the tournament. Singh has scored 437 runs in 11 matches at an average of 39.73 and a strike rate of 170.04.
“You know, Prabhsimran Singh probably has been the more consistent of the two, but you know, young Priyansh Arya, he’s been one of the finds of the tournament. I’ve said that game after game, every time I’ve spoken, I’ve talked about the talent this young boy has, and he’s shown it again tonight,” Ricky Ponting said in a video posted by IPL.
Meanwhile, Arya and Singh once again added a crucial alliance of 122 runs for the opening partnership against DC. The right and left-hand batting pair has been consistently delivering for the Mohali-based franchise and the former Australian captain said the duo has been complementing each other well.
“They complement each other really well, you know, left hand, right hand, you know, Priyansh probably more adaptive against the faster bowling, whereas Priyansh Arya probably better off against the slower and the spin. So they work really well as a partnership, and we need them to keep going on,” he added.
