Rishabh Pant has received a green signal from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to play in the Indian Premier League 2024 as a wicket-keeper. The Indian board confirmed the news in a media release on Tuesday.
Pant met with a near-fatal car accident at the end of 2022 and suffered serious multiple injuries.
Since then, Pant has been on the difficult road to recovery. The wicket-keeper recently uploaded a video on his social media platform in which he is seen keeping wickets and batting in indoor nets.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals had confirmed that Pant will lead them in the upcoming season of the IPL. But there were question marks on his wicket-keeping, which is now cleared by BCCI’s medical team.
BCCI stated in a press release, “After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”
Meanwhile, it was also confirmed by the Indian board that Prasidh Krishna and Mohammad Shami will miss the upcoming season due to their respective injuries. Krishna underwent surgery on the left proximal quadriceps tendon whereas Shami went under the knife for his ankle injury.
BCCI further added on Prasidh Krishna, “The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”
On Mohammad Shami, “The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.”
IPL 2024 will begin on March 22 with defending champions CSK taking on RCB.
