Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag gave credit to Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowling after they suffered their maiden loss of IPL 2026. SRH registered a comprehensive 57-run win against the inaugural champions at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday.
SRH posted a par score of 216 runs on the board, and then their debutant Praful Hinge blew away the RR’s top order. Hinge dismissed in-form Vaibhav Suryavanshi for a golden duck. One ball later, another in-form batter Dhruv Jurel, chopped the ball back onto his stumps. On the final delivery of his game, the 24-year-old pacer from Vidarbha also accounted for Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
Thus, Hinge became the first bowler in IPL history to take three wickets in the first over of an IPL innings. Hinge returned with impressive figures of 4-34, whereas another SRH debutant, Sakib Hussain, bagged 4-24 in his quota of four overs. Hussain accounted for Yashasvi Jaiswal, Donovan Ferreira, Jofra Archer, and Ravi Bishnoi.
Riyan Parag said in the post-match presentation, “Absolutely, I think I’ve not seen them a lot domestically, but I think I played Sakib once when I played against Bihar versus Assam. But they bowled beautifully. I felt the pressure they had with the home crowd supporting and chanting their names and stuff like that. I felt the way they bowled the first four overs, first four, five overs, I think, really was beautiful.”
He added, “We lost back-to-back wickets, credit to the way they bowled. Probably a few miscalculations from us, but we will just take this as a blip and not think about it too much.”
RR was left reeling at 9-5, and from there on, they were never in the run-chase despite a fighting alliance of 118 runs between Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.
