Former Indian batter Robin Uthappa feels Suryakumar Yadav’s performances haven’t blossomed after taking the T20I captaincy. SKY was backed as T20I skipper ahead of Hardik Pandya after Rohit Sharma announced his T20I retirement.
While Uthappa noted that SKY has been up to the mark as a captain but said his performances haven’t been consistent as a leader. Since SKY has taken over the captaincy baton, India has won 17 out of their last 20 games.
SKY could manage 28 runs in five matches against England at an average of 5.60.
Robin Uthappa said on his YouTube Channel, “I want to touch on Suryakumar Yadav’s form. Since he has become T20I captain, the leadership level is on par but his performance hasn’t blossomed. And it’s justified because of the way he came into international cricket and performed consistently. I think it’s not surprising that his form has dipped but I don’t think it will last [long]. In my opinion, he’ll be back amongst the runs.”
Uthappa wants Suryakumar Yadav to lead from the front but also urged him to keep backing his aggressive batting approach.
Uthappa added, “And anyways, as a leader, you want to lead from the front and as far as when you speak about playing ultra-aggressive cricket. As a leader, you want to lead from the front and I think he is ticking that box. He will return to form and runs will flow from the bat very well soon.”
The former flamboyant batter said SKY will use the IPL to bounce back into form.
“One more thing, he will use the IPL to come back into form, come back into runs, and become the swashbuckling dangerous player by the end of the IPL. We’ll see Suryakumar Yadav of the old.”
The first ODI between India and England will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur on Thursday but SKY is not part of the ODI squad.
