Former Indian batter Rohan Gavaskar has urged Lucknow Super Giants to keep giving chances to Mayank Yadav and Himmat Singh after the loss against Rajasthan Royals at Lucknow on Wednesday. LSG suffered a 40-run loss against the inaugural champions and this was their fourth consecutive loss in the tournament.
While Mayank Yadav, who was making a comeback after a long time, returned with expensive figures of 0-56 in his four overs, Himmat Singh, who was used as an Impact Player, scored a run-a-ball 15.
Yadav’s last over was taken for 20 runs by Ravindra Jadeja and Shubhman Dubey as the youngster failed to hit the right areas. Gavaskar questioned Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram’s shot selection after both batters were dismissed for ducks.
“The way that Rishabh Pant and Aiden Markram got out, it looked like there was no planning at all, there was no clarity of thought. We talk about batting and say that they could not chase 160. But we have to remember that Mayank Yadav’s last over went for 20 runs. If you remove Mayank Yadav’s figures, which is over 50 runs conceded, no other bowler went for that much. He is making a comeback after a long time, so there will be pressure on him,” Rohan Gavaskar said on Cricbuzz.
“LSG has to be patient with him because he can win you games as well. Same with Himmat Singh, don’t just give him one chance, you are anyways giving Nicholas Pooran the entire season. So sometimes, you have to give uncapped players 3-4 matches as well, to show what they can do. Himmat Singh comes to bat in difficult situations. Get him into bat in a better situation, and see how he does it without pressure,” he added.
Pooran was dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 25 balls against RR and has managed only 73 runs in the ongoing IPL 2026.
LSG will next take on KKR at Lucknow on Sunday.
