India’s veteran batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have revealed that they are still putting in the work behind the scenes to keep playing in the ODIs for the country. Both Kohli and Rohit have retired from Test and T20Is and they are trying to keep their engines going in the 50-over version.
Meanwhile, Rohit had top scored in the series against Australia with 202 runs, Virat had scored 74 runs in the third ODI after bagging two ducks in the first two games. Rohit scored an unbeaten knock of 121 runs off 125 balls in the third ODI and played a key role in India’s comprehensive nine-wicket win.
Rohit and Kohli have all the experience under their belt and they were able to make the most of it on the tour Down Under.
“You get stronger mentally, physically by putting in the work. It’s a constant process in every day of your life. It’s not just related to cricket,” said Kohli in a video posted by BCCI.
On the other hand, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma said the drive and willingness to play for the country is always the same.
“The drive and willingness. It’s not just now. Every time you come out and represent your country, the drive and willingness are always there,” said Rohit.
“I started playing at 20. My drive was very similar to what it is now. The mindset of coming out and doing well, giving your best, whatever you have inside you has remained the same,” said Rohit.
Kohli said he arrives at 100% capacity and he would look to give his absolute best on the pitch.
“Look, I’ve been very sure of the fact that once I make myself available to play, I arrive at my 100 percent capacity. That’s how I’ve always played my cricket. I’ve never arrived to a series or a tournament at even 95 percent,” said Kohli.
India will take on South Africa in the first ODI at Ranchi on Sunday.
