India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has provided crucial updates on Jasprit Bumrah and Abhishek Sharma amid the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Team India is all set to take on Namibia on Thursday, whereas Suryakumar Yadav’s team will lock horns against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Bumrah was ruled out of the opening clash against the USA as he was down with fever, whereas Abhishek Sharma is now suffering stomach upset.
Doeschate said while talking to the media, “Bumrah hasn’t bowled for 10 days, will bowl today. Abhishek still has an upset stomach.”
If Abhishek Sharma is ruled out, Sanju Samson can get his chance at the top of the order against Namibia. Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck against the USA but Samson is out of form as he managed only 46 runs in five matches against New Zealand.
The former Dutch batter said Washington Sundar has joined the team and will bowl in the nets.
“Washington Sundar has joined the team, will bowl today,” said Ten Doeschate.
Doeschate also opened up on Pakistan’s decision to withdraw its boycott against India.
“First of all, it’s great that the game is back on, we never changed (our) preparation (or thought) that the game wasn’t going to happen. We always had an impression that something would transpire and we would play, so it’s not a big change in the way we go about things,” Ten Doeschate added.
“We got confirmation late yesterday. We’d like to have another chance to play against a quality side and it’s good for the team.”
India will next take on Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Thursday.
