India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has been appointed as the new Head of Cricket Strategy for the Knight Riders franchise, taking on a key leadership role across the group’s global cricket operations.
The former all-rounder will oversee cricket strategy, talent acquisition and player development across all Knight Riders franchises. His appointment marks a return to the Knight Riders setup, where he previously enjoyed success both as a player and coach.
As part of his expanded responsibilities, ten Doeschate will work closely with coaching and analytics teams to establish a consistent cricketing philosophy across the franchise’s global teams. He will also serve as assistant coach for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 and Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC).
Welcoming him back, Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore said the former Netherlands international’s understanding of the franchise’s culture made him the ideal choice for the position.
“We are delighted to welcome Tendo back to the Knight Riders family. His deep understanding of our philosophy, combined with his experience across franchise and international cricket, makes him ideally suited for this role. He will help shape the next phase of growth across the Knight Riders ecosystem,” Mysore said.
Expressing his enthusiasm after the appointment, ten Doeschate said the opportunity would allow him to strengthen player development and long-term planning across the Knight Riders network.
“I’m excited to be back with the Knight Riders in this role. This is a unique opportunity to work with the coaching & analytics teams across our global franchises to strengthen our scouting/player development systems and to build a long-term cricket strategy,” he said.
Ten Doeschate’s association with the Knight Riders began in 2011 when he joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a player. During his playing career with the franchise, he was part of the squads that lifted the Indian Premier League titles in 2012 and 2014.
After retiring from playing, he returned to the franchise in a coaching capacity in 2022 and played an important role in the support staff during Kolkata Knight Riders’ third IPL title-winning campaign in 2024.
His latest appointment further strengthens his ties with the Knight Riders organisation while expanding his influence across its global franchise network. With responsibilities spanning strategy, scouting and player development, ten Doeschate is set to play a central role in shaping the future direction of the Knight Riders ecosystem across multiple T20 leagues.
