Joburg Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis shared his frustration after a below-par batting performance against Pretoria Capitals at the SuperSport Park, Centurion on Tuesday. JSK could only manage 99 runs on the board in their 20 overs after Pretoria Capitals captain Kyle Verreynne decided to bowl first.
JSK could not get any momentum in their batting innings as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Jonny Bairstow top-scored with 30 runs but none of the other batters could show any resistance.
Migael Pretorius was the pick of the bowlers for Pretoria Capitals as he returned with figures of 3-22 in his quota of four overs and thus he bagged Player of the Match. Furthermore, Gideon Peters and Senuran Muthusamy bagged two wickets apiece.
Faf du Plessis said in the post-match presentation, “Frustrating day for us, a day where a lot of things went wrong for us. We got bundled out for 100 and it was very easy for the opposition to chase it down. (On the pitch) It was strange. I faced a couple of balls at the start and the ball spun and gripped sharply, usually the ball comes onto the bat at SuperSport Park.”
He added, “You still think that SuperSport Park is a 180-200 wicket and you try to get that and don’t change your game plan. As a batting team, you need to adjust. As a team, we needed to be more competitive. If we had scored 140, we could have had a chance, probably not enough but we still had a chance. We got two games around and I suppose the form we have got at home is encouraging but today was disappointing.”
On the other hand, Kyle Verreynne was delighted to get the bonus point with a comprehensive victory against JSK.
He said after the game, “It’s been a tough couple of days so I’m pleased to get the bonus point. We were nice and clinical with the ball and the guys finishing it off with the bat was pleasing. We only played two games at home earlier so it was good to come back. There was nice energy out there.”
JSK will next take on Paarl Royals at the Wanderers, Johannesburg on Thursday.
