Former Indian Test opener Sadagopan Ramesh has questioned Lucknow Super Giants’ team management for consistently making changes to their batting order amid the ongoing IPL 2026. Ramesh reckons Nicholas Pooran should have been backed at the number three position.
But Pooran’s batting position was continuously changed throughout the season and it hasn’t been helped the southpaw find his top form. Despite consistent changes, Ramesh reckons the left-hander from the West Indies should have scored at least two half-centuries.
Pooran has managed 82 runs in eight matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 10.25 and a strike rate of 81.19.
Ramesh said on Star Sports, “They’ve played around too much with their batting order. Nicholas Pooran has batted too much down the order. Yet, despite that, he should have scored at least two half-centuries. But they’ve not utilised him to the fullest. It was a surprise that Mitchell Marsh didn’t even pad up to bat in the Super Over last match. But now with nothing to lose and no pressure, their batting might fire.”
The former flamboyant batter reckons Josh Inglis should replace Nicholas Pooran in the playing XI.
“Josh Inglis should come in for Nicholas Pooran. It’s one thing to persist with Pooran when you don’t have viable options in the reserves. But Inglis is one of the finest cricketers. So he should come in straightaway for Pooran. A two-match break will also help Pooran,” said Ramesh (via the aforementioned source).
Inglis missed the first half of the IPL due to his wedding but now has joined the squad. The Australian is available for selection for the Monday clash against Mumbai Indians.
