Sai Sudharsan Will Play in All Formats For India Soon, Claims WV Raman

In-form Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan is drawing high praise from former India cricketer and ex-women’s team coach Woorkeri Venkat Raman, who believes the young left-hander is destined to represent India across all formats.

Sai has been in red-hot form this IPL season, having amassed 186 runs in just three matches at a stellar average of 62. His consistency and maturity at the crease have made him a crucial cog in the Gujarat Titans lineup since his debut in 2022. Already this season, he has registered two half-centuries and a 49, further solidifying his status as one of the most promising young batters in Indian cricket. Last year, he became the fastest player to reach 1,000 IPL runs, achieving the feat in just 25 innings.

Raman, known for his sharp cricketing insights, highlighted Sai’s exceptional fitness as a standout trait. Drawing a comparison with former Indian all-rounder Robin Singh, Raman wrote in his blog, “Sai Sudharsan is extraordinarily fit, and his fitness level reminds me of Robin Singh, one of the fittest cricketers I have seen in Indian cricket.”

A key reason behind this, according to Raman, is Sai’s mother, a fitness expert who has been training him since his childhood. “She has been devising his fitness regimen since his early days and who better than a mother to motivate her son. Apart from looking after his training needs, she has also inculcated the right attitude in Sai Sudharsan,” he noted.

On the technical front, Raman acknowledged that while Sai is “reasonably well organized,” there’s room for improvement. He emphasized the importance of front-foot play, especially against fast bowling, if Sai wants to thrive as an opener in all three formats. “He is relaxed in his stance and that facilitates mobility, but a little bit of stability is needed in order to play shots off the front foot,” Raman observed.

Overall, Raman sees Sai Sudharsan as a complete package — disciplined, technically sound, mentally strong, and physically fit. But he also acknowledged that success at the highest level requires more than just talent. “What he needs in his favour to have a long career is a little bit of luck and the right breaks… To describe Sai Sudharsan like they do in Hindi, he is a lambe race ka ghoda,” he concluded.

As Sai continues to impress with both his performance and temperament, all signs point toward a bright and sustained future in Indian cricket.
