Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has heaped praise on Ishan Kishan after the left-hander made a bright start with his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kishan scored a blistering knock of 106 runs off just 47 balls against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday.
The left-hander completed his hundred off just 45 balls as he batted at the top of his game. The southpaw scored 11 fours and six maximums in his whirlwind innings and played a key role in helping the Orange Army post 286 runs on the board, which is the second-highest total in IPL history.
Bangar reckons Kishan was may be overshadowed by big names like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav when he was playing for Mumbai Indians.
“When he was playing for MI, he was probably overshadowed a little bit by the likes of the other luminaries in the team, maybe a Rohit or a Sky or Hardik and Jasprit,” Bangar said on JioHotstar.
“Ishan has been doing really well when he was left out of the squad and he was out of favour for some amount of time. But what I liked about his approach was that, he seems to have cleared all the doubts that were there in his mind earlier times,” he added.
The former Indian batting coach reckons Kishan will have the space and freedom with SRH in IPL 2025.
“But here he is, he can be his own man and he has the space. Because, if you look at that particular team, the kind of characters that are there, maybe Abhishek, Travis Head, and Klaasen. So it’s a huge opportunity, he has taken it really well, fabulous knock,” Bangar concluded.
Kishan was awarded Player of the Match for his match-winning knock against RR. Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.
