Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar reckons Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has learnt his lesson after tri series against A teams of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. Sooryavanshi was involved in an altercation with Sri Lankan A player Vishen Halambage and was fined 50% of his match fee. Furthermore, he was handed two demerit points.
The prodigy batter had come under scrutiny after he had shoved away the Sri Lankan player following India A’s loss in the Super Over clash.
However, Sooryavanshi bounced back strongly despite the controversy as he smashed a magnum opus knock of 94 runs off just 29 balls. He scored the fastest List A half-century, taking just 11 deliveries to get to the personal milestone.
The left-hander hit 10 fours and eight sixes in his blistering knock as he batted at the top of his game. The youngster scored his runs at a whirlwind strike rate of 324.14 and played a key role in helping India post an above-par score of 377 runs on the board.
“I think Vaibhav has learnt his lesson, the sledging bit. He’ll know what to do. So that’s not a problem. He had first-hand experience in Sri Lanka, and he’ll handle that pretty well, because he seems a very aware, mature guy,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.
Manjrekar, who is known for his deep analysis, said there is something special about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after his final knock.
“I’m very excited because I had a greater insight into him as a white-ball batter in the India ‘A’ series. And there is something about him that’s special,” he said.
Sooryvanshi is part of India’s T20I squad for the upcoming UK tour.
