Former Indian batter Sanjay Manjrekar reckons Virat Kohli should not take all the onus on himself in the IPL 2026 playoffs. Manjrekar reckons Kohli and RCB should continue to play the way they have been playing and back the same template of the league stages in the playoffs.
RCB ended the league phase at the top of the points table with nine wins in 14 games. Kohli once again played a key role in the team’s success, top-scoring with 557 runs in 14 matches at an average of 50.64 and a strike rate of 163.82. However, Kohli was dismissed cheaply for 15 runs in the last game against SRH.
Meanwhile, it is well known that Kohli has been a consistent performer in the big matches and would once again look to make a positive impact for RCB.
“The approach of RCB must remain the same. Virat Kohli is a key player, but everything does not hinge on him, that is how they have become such a good team. It is important for Virat to keep playing in the same fashion, because he has a tendency in the final stages to take too much of the onus on himself, and if he does that, that is dangerous territory for RCB to be in. So, I think they should keep the same template,” Sanjay Manjrekar told Sportstar.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Rajat Patidar revealed he gets so many ideas from his teammates, including Virat Kohli.
“To be honest, I don’t need to do anything extra. Our management, coaching staff and senior players have a lot of experience and that is helping me a lot as a leader. I get so many ideas from VK (Virat Kohli) bhai, Devdutt (Padikkal), Jitesh (Sharma), (Josh) Hazlewood, Tim David. I think their ideas and experience are helping me a lot,” Rajat Patidar said during the pre-match press conference (via Cricbuzz).
RCB will take on GT at Dharamshala on Tuesday.
