India’s new recruit Saransh Jain has been the cynosure of all eyes since he received his maiden Test call-up for the two-match series against Sri Lanka. Jain was rewarded for his impressive form in the domestic circuit and he could be in line to make his Test debut.
Meanwhile, Jain recently met legendary off-spinner Harbhajan Singh at BCCI’s CoE. The Turbanator motivated the 33-year-old all-rounder and urged him to not change anything skill-wise.
Harbhajan told the Madhya Pradesh player that to gain something, he doesn’t have to lose anything, and he just has to do something, a tip which got stuck in Jain’s mind.
“I learnt a lot from Harbhajan during the recent COE camp. He told me not to change anything skill-wise as I have played a lot. But some of his lines motivated me a lot. He told me me one on one that to gain something, you don’t have to lose anything, you just have to do something. That line is stuck in my mind, and I work harder,” Saransh Jain said in an exclusive interview with Star Sports.
The all-rounder revealed spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh were his idols. Furthermore, he started playing because of his father, who is also a former Ranji player.
“I started cricket because of my father. He is also an ex-Ranji player. I play cricket only for him, and he is my idol. When it comes to bowling, Harbhajan and Ashwin are my idols, and I have learnt a lot by looking at their bowling. I am not thinking about how it will be in Sri Lanka, but the focus is only on continuing the basics.”
Jain, who bats left-handed, also revealed his penchant for batting and how he honed his craft by working with his father.
“I like to bat, and from my childhood, I have loved batting just like any other player. I used to work on improving my batting with my brother and father on the terrace. Irrespective of failure or success, I love tough situations while batting. I enjoy staying at the crease,” he said.
The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka will be played at Galle from August 15 onwards.
