Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has said that Shikhar Dhawan is in the mix for the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be played in India. Dhawan has been playing only in the 50-overs format for the national team. Ojha said that Indian captain Rohit Sharma wants Dhawan in the team as the duo has a good chemistry with each other at the top of the order.
Meanwhile, the southpaw returned to the squad recently in England but he looked a bit rusty. However, Dhawan and Rohit Sharma completed 5000 runs as an ODI pair recently in the series against England.
On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan is leading the ODI team against the West Indies, which Ojha reckons are great signs. Dhawan scored a fine knock of 97 runs in the first ODI as he batted at the top of his game and helped India get past the 300-run mark. However, the left-hander could not get going in the second ODI against the Windies and trudged to 13 runs off 31 balls.

“I am seeing the right signs. When you look at a senior player, you have to see how he is being used. He’s in the mix [for the 2023 ODI World Cup] and now, when the seniors are not there and he’s just playing one format, he is made captain of the second-string team,” Ojha was quoted as saying in a conversation with Glance.
The former left-arm orthodox spinner added Rohit Sharma has a good partnership with Shikhar Dhawan and they have all the experience under their belt, especially in the white-ball formats.
“He’s the captain, the leader of the pack, and the batting which looked rusty in England is now looking better he’s trying to get into that space. It is clear that Rohit Sharma wants Shikhar because their partnership is very good,” he stated.
“Rohit has said this and he is sticking to it. I am confident that Shikhar will be in the mix unless there is some forced change. I think he’s in a pretty good space and he’s fit and that is the benchmark. You can’t just fool around with not being fit,” Ojha added.
Meanwhile, it is well known that Shikhar Dhawan has a miraculous record in major ICC events and the left-hander will look to be at his best in the 2023 World Cup. Dhawan makes a potent pair with Rohit Sharma and they will look to deliver the goods for the team.
