Former Pakistan gun fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said Pakistan cricket is currently on a ventilator amid the Test series against England. After suffering a 194-run loss against England in the second Test, PCB made plenty of changes to the squad.

After the loss, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed from their roles. Mike Hesson, Pakistan’s white-ball coach, has been given charge of the Test side ahead of the third and final match at Edgbaston.

Pakistan has returned with scores of 171, 135, 110 and 194 in the first two Test matches. Thus, the visitors have failed to breach the 200-run mark. 

“The PCB itself was very disappointed by these people, and they don’t expect anything from this Pakistan squad. The plan is to remove this squad and replace them with younger and newer blood. Players who just want to play for Pakistan. They are looking at the future now, and they are working at it in the right way,” Akhtar said on the Outside Edge show.

Akhtar said he wants to see Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah’s careers saved during the ongoing transition.

“In this transition, I just want Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf’s careers to be saved. These guys have a lot of cricket left in them,” he added.

The Rawalpindi Express said he has no expectations from the current Pakistan players.

“Nothing. We have expectations from the next generation of players that we are preparing for the big stage,” Akhtar concluded.

The third and final Test between England and Pakistan will be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from September 9 onwards.
