Indian batter Shubman Gill said he felt much better than expected after the first net session before the second Test match against Australia at Adelaide in the Border-Gavaskar series. Gill suffered a thumb injury before the opening Test at Perth while fielding in the practice session and thus was ruled out.
However, the right-hander is all set to return to the playing XI after recuperating from his injury. Gill had scored 144 runs in two Test matches against New Zealand at an average of 36. The flamboyant batter is batting unbeaten on 40 in the practice match against Prime Ministers XI.
The youngster had also played a match-winning knock of 91 runs in the historic Gabba Test match against Australia on the 2020-21 tour.
“It was my first day, and I was just trying to get a feel to be honest, see how the injury is reacting if there was any kind of soreness. But it actually went much better than what I expected and Kamlesh bhai expected. I am very happy with that,” Gill said in a BCCI video.
Meanwhile, India registered a massive win of 295 runs in the opening Test match at Perth, which is their largest win on Australian soil. Jasprit Bumrah bagged eight wickets whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a magnum opus knock of 161 runs in the second innings.
Moreover, KL Rahul returned with scores of 26 and 77 whereas Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 100 to return back to form. Gill shared his delight with the comprehensive win in the opening Test.
“When I got to know about my injury, for the first couple of days, I was quite low and disappointed. Perth was the only venue where I didn’t play when we came the last time and I was looking forward to playing there at such an iconic venue. The way we played that game, at the end of the day, I was very happy,” Gill added.
The second Test match between Australia and India, which will be a pink-ball game, will be played at Adelaide Oval from December 6 onwards.
