Former New Zealand fast bowler Simon Doull has advised Mumbai Indians to demote Rohit Sharma in the batting order. Doull reckons it won’t be a bad idea if the former MI captain bats in the middle order if he is fit and can run hard between the wickets.

Rohit hasn’t been able to deliver the goods for MI in the ongoing season so far, returning with scores of 0, 8, 13, and 17 in the four games he has played while opening the innings.

“The only thing I will say about that is, and with all due respect, the running between the wickets, at the back end. It is such a crucial part of the game, and with the little injuries that he has had, and the worries around that. If he was a 100 percent fit, and the legs were okay, and he could run freely between the wickets, I think why not?” Simon Doull said on Cricbuzz.

The cricket analyst reckons Tilak Varma needs to bat at one down for the five-time champions. After struggling against LSG, the left-hander scored an impressive knock of 56 runs off 29 balls against RCB.

“I think to me, Tilak is a No.3. I think he is the one that has to bat at No.3. he’s got power, and you can revolve your innings around him. I think that he is that highly skilled and such a talent that moving forward you have to decide that if Will Jacks moves to No.5, and play a different role, then so be it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rohit scored 180 runs in five matches of the Champions Trophy at an average of 36, including a match-winning knock of 76 runs against New Zealand in the final.

Mumbai Indians will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
