Indian skipper Shubman Gill revealed that Mohammed Siraj is not injured after the Test series against Sri Lanka. The second Test match ended in a draw after Sri lanka’s greenhorn batter Sonal Dinusha and the lower-order showed all the gumption to keep India at bay.
Siraj returned with economical figures of 1-26 in 15 overs he bowled in the second innings of the second Test match.
Siraj was bowling consistently below 130 kmph in the recently concluded series and had bowled within himself. The fast bowler returned with figures of 1-33 in 11 overs he bowled in the first innings against Sri Lanka. In the opening Test match at Galle, Siraj bagged a total of two innings across two innings.
Siraj is always known to give his 120% on the field, both as a bowler and fielder but the extra effort is missing in his bowling.
“Firstly, Siraj is not injured. He didn’t feel well even in the first match (at Galle). He last played against Afghanistan in June…so he was playing after almost a couple of months. It takes time for someone to come back to the rhythm,” Gill said in the press conference.
“Even in the first Test, we felt that his pace was slow. But sometimes when you play more, you come back to the rhythm. But as far as the injury is concerned, there is nothing,” he added.
On the other hand, Gill said they tried to attack but the pitch got slower, which made it difficult for their bowlers to get breakthroughs on the final day.
“It gets very frustrating. We attacked a lot in the beginning. But I think as the match went on, the wicket got slower. It was not like the ball was not moving and when the ball was spinning, the wickets were not in play. It was not like the wicket was very flat,” Gill added.
India won the series by 1-0 after a 165-run win at Galle.
