Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has showered praise on head coach Gautam Gambhir amid the ongoing T20 World Cup. Ganguly said Gambhir is a strong character and has done a good job for the national team.
Gambhir has an impressive record as a coach in the white-ball format, leading India to glory in the Champions Trophy 2025. But, India has struggled to get going in the Test format in the last couple of years.
However, India has been almost invincible in the T20I format under Gambhir’s tutelage as the players have played with a lot of freedom.
“Gautam is doing a very good job. He’ll do for a while. Depends on the coach and what he wants. If you want to make a team, if you want to get players, you have to be with them all the time. You cannot leave them to someone and then come back, and go in and go out,” Sourav Ganguly said in an interview on ‘Free Hit by LegaXy’.
Ganguly said Gambhir is always clear in his ideas in the dressing room and admitted that every coach has his own method and style.
“Gautam is a strong character. He will be clear on his ideas in the dressing room. John Wright was different, Rahul Dravid was different, so I am sure it changes.”
Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL 2024 title when Gautam Gambhir was the franchise’s mentor and he was able to get the best out of the players.
Meanwhile, India will take on the West Indies at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in a virtual quarterfinal clash. England, New Zealand, and South Africa have already qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing T20I showpiece.
