Former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth has put his weight behind Virat Kohli to play for India in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. With cricket set to included in the LA Games, alongside baseball/softball, flag football, lacrosse (sixes), and squash, India would aim to go for the Gold medal in a game, which the whole nation loves deeply.
Cricket will be played in the T20I format in the Olympics but Kohli had announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after India won the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean. However, Kohli continues to ply his trade in the Indian Premier League.
The veteran batter recently scored 675 runs in 16 matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 56.25 and a strike rate of 165.84. Thus, the talisman played a key role in taking RCB to glory for the second time in a row.
Kohli, 37, is still at the top of his fitness and has delivered consistently in the last few seasons in the IPL.
“You are talking about Olympic gold, I request that Virat plays in the team. It will be a mix of senior and junior. Sooryavanshi with Virat. That will be amazing. The selectors should keep Virat Kohli in T20s because look at his fitness. This might be controversial, but I would request the selectors, ‘Please put Virat in the Olympics’,” Sreesanth said in a video on the YouTube channel, Sports With Ravishh.
Meanwhile, India’s next T20I assignment is the two-match T20I series against Ireland. Following that, the Men in Blue will play five T20Is against England.
Shreyas Iyer has been named as India’s new T20I captain as he replaced Suryakumar Yadav at the helm.
